Monica Burkett is a multidisciplinary artist based in Fort Worth, TX. Through her primary use of toy cameras to capture landscapes, her images communicate a dream-like and whimsical relationship with the natural world. Adding in further perspective with embroidery, these pieces explore themes of resilience, presence, femininity, growth and spirituality — all gifts Mother Earth herself endlessly gives to those who cherish her. The intentionality of film, the softness of fiber and the slowness of stitching all serve as quiet acts of devotion, allowing for meditative reflection and connection to something bigger.

Monica has spent most of her life in North Texas, traveling frequently and chasing inspiration. She graduated with her BFA in Photography from the University of Texas at Arlington and continued her work commercially through her portrait business and most notably, A Sacred Project, where she documented labor and delivery for families. This decade of her life deeply informs her relationship to the feminine and maternal energies we (and our Earth) embody.

She now works as a full time artist residing in the Near Southside with her husband of 16 years and corgi, Jean Valjean.
