Sol Canyon Art by Monica Burkett
_____
Sol Canyon Art was born out of a need to make sense of things in the trenches of the healing process. Sol, Latin for sun -- life and energy bringer to souls and bodies everywhere. And Canyon, named after Topanga Canyon, California – a place I go often to discover new pieces of myself and my journey.
Engaging with Mother Earth through each artistic practice I move through, whether film, botanical sculpture or mixed media, has brought grounded stability in the divine feminine and an embodiment of softness as I navigate a heavy and harsh world.
Nature’s resilience and beauty provide a powerful framework for exploring themes such as deconstruction, the adoptee experience, chronic illness and healing. Being inspired by and working with natural mediums, I invite viewers to reflect on their own journeys, illustrating how we can navigate life’s adversities with grace and ease. Just as nature adapts and flourishes, my art serves as a testament to the healing potential inherent in embracing our vulnerabilities.
Through my current work, I hope to foster a sense of connection and understanding, encouraging dialogue around these often-overlooked experiences. Ultimately, my art is a celebration of the delicate balance between pain and joy — inviting others to find their own light in the midst of darkness.
